Title: Grenadier Regt. "Breymann".

Place: Duchy of Brunswick

Date: around 1776

Equipment of the Grenadier Regt.
Mitrecap:Based on the army of Prussia the grenadiers wore the mitrecap. The front shield and fittings were made of brass. Some units had the metal fittings in silver. NCO's wore a different pattern cap. This is the only surviving cap. It was probably taken at Bennington. The pompom on top was in the colors of the unit. Fishbone was sewn in the back to strengthen the cap. Most armies with a protestant population used the Prussian pattern cap with the brass shield in front. Some countries with mostly a catholic population adopted the fur cap. Cartridgebox:Shown here is a cartridgebox used by the Grenadier Batl. The grenadier companies always had flaming bombs on there cartridgeboxes otherwise it was the regular infantry box.
The grenadier NCO's of the Brunswick corps did not carry the pike as a side-weapon.
